Basic groundwork and foundations.
Energy Space uses the Swift plinth foundation system. This uses a fraction of the concrete normally required for an equivalent load and is fully compliant with building regulations.
Vertical larch cladding
This is a sustainable and very durable timber which Energy Space sources from sustainably managed forests.
Airtightness
Many buildings lose heat because they leak heat. Our expertise in Sustainable Construction means we can carefully detail the continuous air tightness membrane, eliminating draughts and ensuring a stable interior temperature.
Insulation
This is only effective when properly installed. We ensure the insulation is performing as it is designed to: with no gaps, so no cold air by-passes it. We also design out cold bridging with a layered build-up.
Ventilation
To achieve a constant supply of fresh air inside an airtight construction, ventilation has to be controlled to replace the air at a healthy level. A ventilation system is built into every Energy Space. Heat recovery is incorporated into the system, meaning the heat energy from the outgoing air is used to pre heat the fresh incoming air through a heat exchanger, saving energy that would otherwise be lost.
Lighting
During daylight the natural lighting levels are optimised through window design, while the lighting systems used are the latest in low-energy lighting technologies. The number of lights installed varies with the size of the building.
Fully plastered and decorated interior
The walls are skimmed smooth and after a week they are decorated with a fully breathable and natural paint. Skirting boards are then fitted and decorated.
Electrical system
The office comes equipped with power sockets and lighting. It will normally require its own fuse- board/consumer unit, which is routed back and hooked up to the main house fuse board. The house hook-up is a standard service providing the house fuse board is not over 30 metres from the proposed site of the office and there is a clear route for the laying of cable below ground. This would be assessed on the initial site survey.
Solar array and full national grid hook-up
On the Z range, each building is equipped with an array of solar panels that can provide the energy required in the garden building whilst in use. When not in use the energy is diverted to the main house or, if there is nobody at home, back to the grid. While the initial outlay is higher, it is recouped within 10 years, while the useful lifetime of the solar kit is 25 years. So for at least 15 years your building can be paying you!
