This design revolves around a circular lawn and lines that gently intersecting it: the curving deck steps up to a circular lawn which then steps up to a reclaimed York stone patio, green oak sleeper benches and a playhouse.

The different zones in this garden are accessed along the totally straight decked pathway, which is wide enough for kids to cycle up and down. Spaces to play and also to relax: a lawn, a cantilevered sunny bench and a raised seating area. Designed by James Lee

This project was designed around an eight seater table. The hardwood deck is gently raised up to receive more sun. The deck is surrounded by bamboo to provide some privacy. Designed by James Ackroyd Cooper

The client works in town and was paying a substantial gym membership, so looked into fitting a gym into his garden. We were able to offer a very low energy and low carbon solution which he liked the idea of.

The gym is painted a neutral grey as requested and a full size mirror fitted to its end wall. This reflects the daylight around, creating a lovely light filled interior in which he can exercise.

This client is a freelance climate scientist, who plays piano. She needed a low carbon building that utilised the lowest impact materials and had the highest thermal performance. She selected an L model and opted for 20cm of hemp insulation in the walls.

The layout was important in a small floor space. An L-shaped desk wraps around the two walls with windows while the piano is accommodated at the back of the office. A very usable space was crated.

This hardwood deck faces due south and was designed for three season outdoor living. The pergola structure is for climbing plants to grow up, to create shade in the summer. Water tight storage is built in to the bench and a rendered wall was built around the back of the garden and covered in vine wires for climbing plants.

Cor-ten steel is used as to clad these planters which lead the eye into the outdoor space The contrast of the rust colour with the bright ever-green planting is stunning. The planters are capped with a wide hardwwod board for seating. Designed by Sarah Hammond.

This garden cascades down the hill from the house. We designed this around a series of sun decks in soft and comfortable red cedar followed by a series of terraces built in purbeck stone which contain planting, a lawn and a slate terrace at the lowest level.

The clients are a bookshop owner a freelancer with a large family. They were looking to create a workspace outside in their large garden where they could operate their businesses from. The idea of creating clean energy appealed and they selected a Z model.

They are now harvesting sunshine in their bright and airy office space. They often slide their bi-folding doors right open and bring the outdoors inside. The veranda provides shade in summer and allows the sun right inside in winter.

The client is a reflexologist who required an aesthetically pleasing, as well as low energy, studio to receive her patients. She wanted a Z model as the power generated could also be used in her home when the studio wasn’t in use.

The studio is working very well and her patients all love it. Sliding doors were used in this case, and cedar cladding which has weathered to a beautiful silver.
